The Water Institute of the Gulf is located across the street from the State Capitol park and building in Baton Rouge. The Water Institute focuses on trying to find new ways to improve the water quality of the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River.
Melissa Baustian is a coastal ecologist at The Water Institute of the Gulf, where she studies the water quality of the Mississippi River. She is currently working on a project focused on whether the reintroduction of wetlands along the river is a viable solution for reducing nutrients in the water.
